KAREN MULLEN MUSCATINE, Iowa - Karen E. Mullen, of Muscatine, died Friday, January 2, 2009, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2902 Lucas Street. Brother Paul Stamler II will officiate the service. Honorary bearers will be her nephews, Donald Ash Jr., James Ash, Dennis Cozad, Doug Marx, and Tom Mullen. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Gavin T. Whittaker, Quintin J. Whittaker, Derick P. Minch, Dakota L. Mullen, Zachary D. Mullen, Joshua J. Mullen and Padon G. Mullen. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Fred Mullen. Karen was born on October 15, the daughter of Harold and Alberta Tomasson Ash. She married Fred Mullen on May 16, 1964, in Muscatine. They had been married for 45 years. She was a graduate of St. Mary High School. She was a devoted wife and mother, and active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a love for genealogy, and enjoyed camping, and spending time with her family. She loved the grandkids and their sports activities. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Survivors include her husband, Fred Mullen of Muscatine; two sons, Jeff Mullen and wife, Laura, of Muscatine, and Greg Mullen and wife, Sue, of New Boston, Illinois; two daughters, Lisa Rogers and husband, Bob, of Muscatine, and Kristen Minch and husband, John, of Muscatine; 11 grandchildren; and one sister, Darlene Marx and husband, Jerry, of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Donald Ash, one sister, Muriel Cozad, one son-in-law, Jeffery Whittaker, and three nephews, Harold Ash, Richard Cozad Jr., and James Baker Jr.
