JAMES D. COSTAS SR. ILLINOIS CITY, Illinois - James D. Costas Sr., 62, of Illinois City, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at his home. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Don Sondrol will officiate the service. Casket bearers will be Brian Costas, Scott Holden, Kerry Meyer, Scott Stufflebeam, Dan Wiemers, and Matt DeKeyrel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the funeral home. James was born on March 19, 1946, in Muscatine, the son of Sam and Violet Whitaker Costas. He married Connie Denison on December 23, 1972, in North English. He worked as a mechanic and did construction. He enjoyed fishing, camping, building racecars, and demolition cars. He was looking forward to the any day arrival of his 12th grandchild, Dallas Costas. Survivors include his wife, Connie Costas of Illinois City; one daughter, Peggy Bock and husband, Ryan, of Mechanicsville; three sons, Jason Costas and wife, Lori, of Muscatine, James Costas Jr. and wife, Andie, of Muscatine, and Jerry Suchomel of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and 11 grandchildren, Emma Bock, Tatum Costas, Carter Costas, Alex Bock, Payton Costas, Abby Bock, Elly Phillips, Hailey Phillips, Sabrina Paul, Trevor Paul, Kyleigh Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George, Ronnie, Leo, Gary; one sister, Romell Schroder; and his step-father, Wendell Ranke.
