Hoke P. Bruffey Jr. DURANT, Iowa - Hoke P. Bruffey Jr., 77, of Durant, died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Country House in Davenport. Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2010, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. The officiant will be Pastor Brian McNamara. Musical selections will be provided by Phyllis and Dal Morris and Patricia Thoene. Serving as casket bearers will be Dal Morris, Darrell Thoene, Michael Peterson, Ken Paper, Jeff Hendrych and Kevin Paper. Burial will take place in the Durant Cemetery, Durant. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2010, at funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory. Hoke was born July 21, 1932, in Buckhannon, West Virginia, to Hoke and Edythe Mustoe Bruffey Sr. He married Dimple D. Smith on June 7, 1959 in Upper Glade, West Virginia. Hoke graduated from Webster Springs High School in Webster Springs, West Virginia. He then attended Fairmount State College, Fairmount, West Virginia. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Hoke retired in 1997, from Bowater Communication Paper Inc. in Moline, Illinois (formerly Star Forms, Inc.) where he was purchasing control manager. Previously he had worked as a lineman for the power company in West Virginia. He was a member of the River Community Church, Iowa City, and was the Chaplain of the Muscatine Eagles Club. He enjoyed bowling, watching sports, crossword puzzles, walking and jogging, music and animals. Above all, he enjoyed reading his Bible. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Dimple Cookie Bruffey of Durant; his daughters, Patricia Thoene and her husband, Darrell, of West Branch; and Phyllis Morris and her husband, Dal, of Ellington, Missour; his grandson, Michael Peterson of Coralville, and his step-grandchildren, Rebekah Sommers, Nick Morris and Derick Thoene. He is also survived by his sister, June Hamrick, of Bel Air, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jean, and brothers Darrel and Clifford Bruffey.
