Evelyn Werner WAPELLO, Iowa - Evelyn Werner, 89, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Wapello United Methodist Church. The Revs. Sue-Ellen Sherman and Scott Smith will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be 1 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the church. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or Keck Memorial Library. Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello is in charge of the arrangements. Evelyn was born on May 20, 1920, the daughter of Perry A. and Gretchen E. Mueller Staub in Wever. She graduated from the Demark Academy at age 16 and went on to get a primary teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls. After college she taught first and second grade for two years at Grandview. She married Paul L. Buster on June 14, 1941. She taught a year at Sperry before retiring to raise four children and farm with her husband on a farm 6 miles west of Wapello. She later received a bachelor's from Iowa Wesleyan and returned to teaching at Wapello where she taught kindergarten for 28 1/2 years. Three children and four grandchildren followed her into teaching. She was widowed August 1962, when Paul drowned in the Pacific while on a family vacation. She married Raymond Werner on Dec., 28 1970, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a member of the Wapello United Methodist Church, a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years, and member of Retired Teacher's Association; the Oakland Social Club and Kiwanis. She is survived by her husband, Ray Werner, four children, four step-children, 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren which includes: John P. and Ingrid Buster of Morning Sun, six grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, Dr. Ward and Teresa Buster of Cleveland, Ohio; Inga Lelm of Tremont, Illinois; Ivy and Michael Steiner of Tremont, Illinois, Karl Buster of Wapello; Will and Andrea Buster of Morning Sun; and Clay and Jessica Buster of Morning Sun, Paula (Buster) and Robert Buckman of Morning Sun; two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren, Lora (Carr) and Steve Earnest of Wapello, and Lisa (Carr) and Chuck Johnson of Kalona, Patricia (Buster) and Roger Downs of Decorah, and two grandchildren, Erica Downs and Alex Downs both of New York, New York, Pamela (Buster) and Harold Humphreys of Crawfordsville, and two grandchildren, Kelli (Humphreys) and Mark Peck of Colorado and Jake and Samantha Humphreys of Seattle, Washington, Janice (Werner) Campbell of Davenport; Jim Werner of Letts, Robert Werner of Pasadena, California, and Marcia (Werner) and Boyd Butters of Central City, one granddaughter, Julie, and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her first husband and infant daughter, Margaret Ann.
