William G. Antram
March 2, 1925 - August 1, 2010

WILLIAM ANTRAM MUSCATINE, Iowa - William G. Antram, 85, of Muscatine, died Sunday, August 1, 2010, at Lutheran Homes under Hospice Care. Funeral Service will be 9 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Gerry Kahler will officiate the service. An honorary bearer will be Kaitlyn Anderson. Casket bearers will be Dave Compton, Ben Johnson, Steve Anderson, Brett Antram, and Marissa Antram. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010, at the South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Compasses of Muscatine or the Lutheran Homes Assisted Living. William was born on March 2, 1925, in Menlo, the son of Fred and Gertie Messinger Antram. He married Sybil Compton on November 27, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Des Moines. He was a graduate of Stuart High School, class of 1944. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was stationed out in Oakland, California, as a Navy Seabee guarding a Nazi War Camp. After returning from his discharge from the Navy, he continued to work with his father and half-brother in the family business at Antram Masonry. He then went to work for Montgomery Ward in Des Moines in 1955 and was later transferred in April of 1957 to Muscatine, where he worked as a salesman in furniture, appliances and other various departments, also helping in Iowa City and Burlington. He went to work for Prime Mover in 1970, as Shipping Supervisor retiring in October of 1987. He enjoyed watching television, especially wrestling, and Walker, Texas Ranger. He enjoyed visiting and joking with friends and family and telling tall tales. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sybil Antram of Muscatine; one son, Tom Antram and wife, Debbie, of Muscatine; one daughter, Georgann Anderson and husband, Steve, of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Marissa and Brett Antram of North Liberty, and Kaitlyn Anderson of Muscatine; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of Winterset; a brother-in-law, Ben Compton of Bedford, Texas; an aunt, Mary Knuth and husband, Butch, of Depere, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brother, Charles Branson and wife, June, a brother-in-law, Robert Compton and wife, Melba; two sisters-in-law, Betty Bonner and husband, Paul, and Clara Maye Compton; and a brother-in-law, William Johnson.
