In loving memory of

Jerald Dean Chilson
June 13, 1933 - October 6, 2021

Jerald Dean Bryan Chilson, June 13, 1933 - October 6, 2021.
"Mother, Mom and Grammie" passed quietly at home on October 6, 2021 at the age of 88. Jerri was born on June 13, 1933 in Bastrop, Texas to parents, Gordon Jasper and Sarah Vivian Bryan. Jerri graduated from Texas State University, formerly Southwest Texas State, in 1953 earned a Masters from there in 1972. She began teaching in 1963 after giving her family a good start in life. She was always proud that she was able to buy a 1964 ½ classic mustang with her own paychecks from her first teaching job! Jerri was the embodiment of Henry Adams' famous quote, "A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence stops". Over the course of her life-time she taught in middle school, high school, and after getting her master's degree in counseling, was a college counselor. In addition to teaching, family was Jerri's other great love. She lived with and took care of her beloved mother on the family ranch in the Texas Hill Country until Vivian's passing in 1995, and continued happily living there until moving in with her eldest son in Irving, Tx in 2016, due to failing health. Beloved by former students, close friends, and her family, she is survived by sons Lynn Chilson and Bryan Chilson. Known as "Grammie" to her grandchildren including Sheralyn Chilson Irwin, Spencer Chilson, Colin Chilson, Sean Chilson as well as Cory Chilson Demir and Richard Chilson. "Grammie" is survived and adored by 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also respected and loved by so many who were touched by her empathy, kindness and genuine love. She asked to be cremated and her ashes offered to the Pacific Ocean in a private service with any family who can make the trip to say goodbye. The only other memorial she wanted was to teach a child the joy of reading.
