Tomas M. Salazar Sr. COLUMBUS CITY, Iowa - Tomas Maltos Salazar Sr., 80, Columbus City, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction. The Revs. James Cluney and Mike McAfee will officiate the services. Casket bearers will be Todd Salazar, Sean Salazar, Tomas Salazar III, Jose Mu�'±oz Jr., David DeLaO and Tim Salazar. Honorary casket bearers will be Davin Lingren, Raul Perez, Jr., Donnie Orr, Ian Toye and Daniel Galvan. Burial will take place in Columbus City Cemetery. Following services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Columbus Junction American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2010, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Victory Christian Center and the First Assembly of God in his memory. Tomas was born on December 29, 1929, in El Moral, Coahuila, Mexico, the son of Hilario and Victoriana Maltos Salazar. He married Emma Menchaca on May 6, 1947, in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2005. He married Dona Lane on September 28, 2006, in Wapello, and they worked together on their farm. Previously he had retired from Grain Processing Corp., in Muscatine, as a machine operator. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Washington and was a past member of the Fredonia Independent Gospel Church where he was very active. He also attended Victory Christian Center in Columbus Junction. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, dancing and cooking, especially Mexican dishes. In 1962, he cooked for the film actor John Wayne on the set of ''The Alamo.'' He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dona Salazar of Columbus City; three sons, Roger Salazar and wife, Laurie, of Columbus Junction, Tomas M. Salazar Jr. and wife, Carla, of Columbus City and Abel Salazar and wife, Karen, of Columbus Junction; three daughters, Yolanda Mu�'±oz and husband, Jos�'¨, of Fort Madison, Lety Perez and husband, Raul, of Columbus Junction and Margie DeLaO and husband, David, of Columbus City; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma; a great-grandson, Josiah David Lingren; a great-granddaughter, Halley Munoz; two sisters, Lupe Galvan and Maria Galvan; and two brothers, Hilario Salazar Jr. and Juan Antonio Salazar.
