James "Jimmy" Marti
August 21, 1967 - July 20, 2011

James Dean "Jimmy" Marti was born August 21, 1967, in Algona, Iowa, the son of John and Cyrilla (Schmidt) Marti. He grew up in Algona where he attended school and graduated from the Algona High School in 1986. He went on to attend Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg for two years.

After his schooling, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army and served at Fort Ord in California for eight years. Upon his honorable discharge from the military in 1996, Jimmy returned to the area and settled in Irvington, where he has lived ever since.

On February 18, 2005, Jimmy was united in marriage to Shelley Finlayson in Algona. After their marriage they lived in Irvington and Jimmy worked at Universal Manufacturing and he was currently working at Snap-On Tools in Algona.

He enjoyed spending time with family and was affectionately known by the nieces and nephews as "Uncle Squirrel". Jimmy enjoyed working on his Cub Cadet tractor, farming, fishing, gardening, adding to his toy collection and looking for antique glass bottles. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and a member of the VFW Post #2541 in Algona.

Jimmy died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. He was 43.

He is survived by his wife, Shelley of Irvington; step-son, Matt Seifert of Mason City; mother, Cyrilla Marti of Algona; father and mother-in-law, Jon and Lois Finlayson of Mason City; siblings, Paul Marti of Oklahoma City, OK; Theresa and Rick Paulson of Armstrong; John Marti Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; Janet and Larry Nelson of Mason City; Wendy and Mike Nelson of Mason City; Patrick Marti of Irvington; Sarah and Damon Pankey of Algona; sister-in-law, Kris and Mike Brass of Rudd. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Marti.
