Thomas Klein Nisbet passed away on July 28th, 2011 after battling heart failure and leukemia.
Tom was born on January 9th, 1931 in Richland Center to Thomas and Eva (Klein) Nisbet. Tom spent most of his childhood in southwestern Wisconsin. He graduated first in his class at Columbia University's School of Architecture in 1955 winning a fellowship to study architecture in Europe. On August 27, 1954 he married Lynette Patricia MacIntyre. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years. Tom was an architect at Flad Architects for many years, then owned Nisbet Architects. We have all enjoyed his exceptional designs including the WARF and Vilas Hall buildings on the UW campus, National Guardian Life, and Sentry World Headquarters in Stevens Point. Tom was a lifetime member of Nakoma Golf Club and gifted artist. His landscape and wildlife paintings will be cherished forever.
Tom is survived by his wife Patty and three sons Bruce (Bonnie) Nisbet, Jay (Tonya) Nisbet and Chris (Kate) Nisbet, of Madison. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Alex, Trent, William, Dani and Olivia and a sister, Mary (Oscar) Beach of Bedford, Ohio. Tom will forever be remembered for his intellect and quick wit. He was rarely seen without a book and was always ready to talk about art and literature.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to the UW Carbone Cancer Center.

"I worked with (for) Tom when I first came to Flad & Madison. We had many discussions about design, detail, architecture in general, etc. We often didn't agree. However there was a mutual personal respect for each other on each subject. Family was one item on which we always did agree.
. Patti & Tom were always very gracious especially when we were at their home for dinner. Barbara & I were new to the firm however, we were always treated as special guests.
I will never forget those qualities & many more about Tom & (you) Patti."

"I was fortunate to be able to caddy for Tom quite often when I was young. We developed a great friendship and had a lot of great conversations over the years. Tom always found the time to share a laugh or share a bit of wisdom with me. He has been a great supporter of me over the years and will be dearly missed. I will never forget our time on the golf course together."

Tom Romberg wrote on Jul 31, 2011:
"I will miss my long-term friend and golfing buddy, Tom Nesbit. He was one I could usually beat on the links. In the past few years as it became hard for him to golf, he became a fixture at Nakoma sitting at a corner table with a book and a glass of merlot. I often joined him discussing tales from his book, past events, and so forth.
My condolences to Patty and the kids.

"Fri.-July 29, 2011.
I will remember Tom N. having a wonderful time
last fall at Nisbet Acres. It is so wonderful he got to see this special place before he became too ill to do so. His family holds a special place in our
hearts.
