Bryan Howard Underwood, 49, of Burlington, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Bryan was born May 29, 1962 in Burlington, the son of Gale H. and Janet L. Smith Underwood. He grew up on the family farm at Libertyville where he raised state award winning sheep, hogs, and farmed with his father and during his growing up years played the organ. He was a 1980 graduate of Fairfield High School and studied Body Shop at Indian Hills Community College and Southeastern Community College. He owned and operated Underwood Auto Body in Burlington and for the past 13 years worked as a car buyer for JD Byrider in Burlington. He was a licensed cosmetologist in Arizona and Iowa. Bryan loved his adventures to Mexico and the Ocean. He enjoyed playing pool, collecting fancy wine glasses, shot glasses, and key chains. He also enjoyed his aquarium, boating and being on the river, four-wheeling, camping, gathering geodes and hunting mushrooms in May. He especially enjoyed teasing and playing with his nephews and being with his family at the "80".
He is survived by his parents, Gale and Janet Underwood of Danville; one sister, Dawn (Bob) Kennedy of Blue Earth, Minnesota; nephews Jack, Jared, and Justin Kennedy; aunts and uncles, Larry & Nancy Underwood of San Antonio, Joneane & Gene Parker of Libertyville, John & Angie Smith of Morning Sun, Jeanne & Steve Meyers of Fairfield, and Jay & Deb Smith of Florida; Cousins Cheryl, Laura, and Christie Underwood, Jill McKinstrey, Judson, and Jenness Parker, Danielle Meyers, Ashley Manning, Toni McLaughlin, Johnny Smith, Samantha Smith. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Myrtle Underwood, John & Olive Smith, and Alberta & Ole Nelson; and one sister, Brenda Kay Underwood in infancy.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 3 at Fell Cemetery, Libertyville, IA. Pastor Keevin Koch will officiate. Visitation will begin after noon until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, August 2 at Elliott Chapel, New London and the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established.
