We had just been sent home due to our bangs being too long or skirt too short, don't remember which it was this time. LOL He gladly gave us a ride to Kathy's house. Marvin Dale Ogburn, age 85 of Colfax, died Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Bright Kavanagh Hospice in Des Moines from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Colfax United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Dale Ogburn Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of John Rollie and Minnie (Lamb) Ogburn, Dale was born on December 11, 1925, in Monroe, Iowa. Dale graduated from Prairie City High School in 1944, and proudly served in the United States Army during WWII, from 1944 - 1946 with many honors. Upon his return from the service he was united in marriage to Gloria Warfield. He operated a Skelly Service Station in Colfax from 1948 - 1957, He then went to work for thirty years at the Jasper County Road Department as a mechanic. On November 14, 1987, he was married to Roberta Cook in Colfax.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Roberta; children, Landis (Kris) Ogburn and Margaret Peterson; eight grandchildren, John Henry Ogburn, Jacob Peterson, Brandon Peterson (Heather), Nicholas Peterson (Angie), James Johnson, Tom (Carolyn) Johnson, Wes Johnson, and Kim Johnson; two great grandchildren, Michael and Char; a brother, Cecil (Beatrice) Ogburn, a niece Susan Stringham and many good friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and his first wife, Gloria.

"I grew up in the neighborhood so I have many fond memories of Dale. He was always very friendly to us kids. I can remember all times he would pull in from work in his old truck and we would stop by on our bikes just to say "hi". We enjoyed his presence and his big smile. Dale was a super nice man with a big heart. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dale's family. "
