Cecelia Schmechel, 81, of Ashwaubenon passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004, at Bellin Hospital, after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. She was born December 2, 1922 to the late Leo and Julia (Piontek) Gezella in Green Bay. On May 6, 1950, she married Richard (Dick) Schmechel in Green Bay at St. Joseph Catholic Church. After Dick's unexpected death on October 13, 1968, at the age of 46, Ceil worked full-time and raised her four children alone. She retired from Moore Business Forms in 1985. Cecelia was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Ceil loved her children, but her greatest pleasure was her grandchildren-- She loved to play cards with her grandsons, Brad and Brett, making that special sandwich for Chandra, spoiling Tanner and Tanae rotten!!!, going to Krolls with Kari and Joe, and special visits from Vicki and Scott? Mom was an avid Packer fan and loved Brett Farve; she loved the Cubbies? She loved to read novels, and took pride in finding that special and unique Christmas gift for everyone.. Until two weeks ago, she still did her own shopping. Mom loved to eat.. She loved going to Basils, Jan's chicken dumpling soup, Valerie's lasagna, Larry's fish fry, Jennie's breakfast sandwiches, and Julie's porcupine meatballs and meals on wheels?And for desert Brad's angel food cake. She is survived by her children and their families, Julie Ann and James Buckarma, DePere, and James' son, Mikel Buckarma, Madison; Larry and Jan Schmechel, Green Bay, and their children, Brad and Brett at home and Chandra Schmechel, St. Cloud, Minnesota; Valerie and Mike Murray, Kimberly, and their children, Vicki and Scott Coller, Madison and Kari Murray and fiance' Joe Rosin of Menasha; Jennie and David DeCleene, Ashwaubenon, and their children Tanae and Tanner; and a very special nephew, Norm Goral and his wife, Ceil; also her brother, Bobby and Jacky Gezella, Sobieski; sisters-in-law, Florence Gezella, Elaine Gezella and Emily Gezella, all of Green Bay; Irene Schmechel and Margaret Luedke of DePere; and Marie Schmechel, Green Bay; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her sisters, Agnes Goral, Frances Peters, and Eleanor Coenen; and her brothers, Jack, Joseph, Chester, Eddie and Adolph Gezella. Friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Sunday, September 12 at Lyndahl Funeral Home, Lombardi Ave. at Ridge Rd., where funeral services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Interment in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Mom, Dad has been waiting for you almost 36 years, his arms are open and waiting for you. Let Dad take you in his arms again. God only knows you have earned it?Rest, Mom, Rest.
