Oscar "Ozzie" Forslund

Oscar (Ozzie) A. Forslund, 81, Green Bay, died Thursday, February 10, 2005, at a local hospital. He was born April 7, 1923 to the late Alex and Agnes (Vandenburg) in Marinette, Wisconsin. After returning from serving in the U. S. Army as a gunman on the ?British Columbia Express?, he married the love of his life, Marcella Smith on November 23, 1946. Ozzie enjoyed going to his cottage up north and sitting by the fire. Ozzie will always be remembered as one of the best guitar players in Green Bay. He started playing when he was 12 years old and continued his musical career while in Marinette, playing with Arnie Smiltneck's five-piece band from 1946 to 1951. After moving to Green Bay in 1951, he played at the Terminal Bar for 28 years and was employed by Tape Inc. for 36 years. After retiring from Tape Inc., he finished his musical career by playing at local nursing homes and telling his great jokes to bring joy to others. His music, laughter and love of life will truly be missed. Survivors include his wife, Marcella; his five wonderful children and their spouses, Shirley and Earl Habeck, Green Bay; Sandra Forslund, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Sharon and Michael Delvoye, Green Bay; Steven Forslund, Green Bay; and Scott and Eva Forslund, Green Bay. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and their spouses, Earl Jr. and Amy Habeck; Stephanie and Robert Puissant; Susan and Joseph Chilcote; Summer and Brett Moudry; Shaun and Danelle Forslund; Yvette Delvoye; Alecia Delvoye; Drew Forslund; and Alex Forslund; and eight great-grandchildren, Ambyr, Duncan, Leighann, Jared, Nathan, Zachary, Alex and Jacob; and three sisters-in-law, Maggie Forslund, June Forslund and Verna Forslund. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Retlick and Myrtle Forslund; three brothers, Henry Forslund, James Forslund and Clarence ?Tincy? Forslund; and one granddaughter, LeeAnn Habeck. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, February 13, at Lyndahl Funeral Home, Lombardi Ave. at Ridge Rd. Visitation will continue after 10:00 A.M. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 330 South Broadway, where the funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Michael Baucom officiating.
