Viola Johnson
October 18, 2011

Viola Clara Nimmer Johnson died on January 7, 2006 at Woodside Lutheran Home in Green Bay. The last surviving member of the Carl and Helena Mach Nimmer family, Viola was born in West Kewaunee on June 1, 1913. Following school, she worked on the family farm and for prominent Kewaunee families until her marriage to Norman L. Johnson on March 23, 1933. Viola and Norman spent most of their married life in Sturgeon Bay. Viola's life revolved around her family and home. She was known for perfection in all things, cooking, home making, and gardening and in her exquisite needlework. Viola noticed and enjoyed what to others might be truly insignificant. She took as much pleasure in what she would find in digging up a hill of potatoes as she did in opening the most beautifully wrapped gift. Prior to Capt. Johnson's 1965 retirement, Norman and Viola spent the winter months in the south where the younger children attended to school. In 1969 they moved into their cottage and continued to travel and sail, by then making their home in Naples, Florida. Following Norman's death in 1990, Viola joined the jet setters, maintaining an apartment in Green Bay and her home in Naples. She has been a resident of the Woodside Lutheran complex since 1992.
Surviving Viola are her children Norm and Virginia Johnson, Green Bay; Joan Spring, Weidman, Michigan,;Carol and Armando Enriquez, The Colony, Texas; and Vi Deaver, Naples, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren Greg Johnson, Rolland, Connie, Fred, Roseanne, Robin, Bernie and Don Spring, Barbara, Paul and Doug Enriquez, Tiffany Deaver, their spouses, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Clara Londo Johnson of Green Bay and many nieces and nephews.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband Norman L. Johnson, an infant son, son-in-law Harold Spring, her parents and siblings and their spouses: Elsie and Joe Krueger, Weldon and Dora Nimmer, Laura and Ed Kanitz, Lawrence and Millie Nimmer, Erhart and Millie Nimmer, Leona and Oscar Kluth, Norma and Erwin Jacobs, Ardena and Harvey Borchardt and Helen and Francis Brunner.
