Donald J. Fletcher, 77, Greenleaf, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008, at a local nursing home, following a lengthy illness of heart disease and Alzheimers.
Don was born in Green Bay to the late Agnes Fletcher Ashacker and Jule Fletcher. Don was a 1948 graduate of Green Bay West High School and then worked as a bricklayer/stone mason through Local #3. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 822nd EAB. Upon returning from service, he resumed work in construction and formed Fletcher Construction & Realty.
In 1951 Don was initiated into the Masonic Brotherhood in Green Bay. He was a member of Theodore Roosevelt Lodge #322, Free & Accepted Masons, Warren Chapter #8 Royal Arch Masons and Warren Council #13. He was Past Commander of Palestine Commandery No. 20, Knights Templar, as well as Drill Commandant for many years. Other Masonic affiliations include Scottish Rite - Valley of Green Bay, Green Bay Shrine Club, Tripoli Shrine, charter member of Beja Shrine, and the first Drill Commandant of the Vets of Valor.
Don's hobbies included his 60' Corvette and 1947 Piper Cruiser airplane, as well as gardening, fishing, hunting, reading, and playing the ukulele.
On October 29, 1971, Don married Jerilyn Steinbrecher who survives him, as well as their daughter Jamie Lynn and fur persons dd.com and Pasha. Other survivors include his sister Colleen (Bill) Heffernan, half-brothers Max and Richard (Marcia) Fletcher, mother-in-law Marguerite Steinbrecher, sisters-in-law Eugenia Fletcher and Cynthia Leiterman, brother and sister-in-law James and Lynn Steinbrecher, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brit, brother James Fletcher, and brother-in-law Ken Leiterman.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Monday, January 21, at the NE Wisconsin Center, 525 N. Taylor Street, where a Masonic and memorial service will take place at 7 pm with the Rev. Steve Fewell officiating. A memorial fund will be established in Donald's name for Masonic and other charities. The family would like to thank to Unity Hospice for their care and service during the past year.
