In loving memory of

John Bergmann
October 18, 2011

John William Bergmann, 76, Ashwaubenon, died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at home, after a long illness. He was born to Nicholas and Pearl (Lambrecht) Bergmann on June 11, 1935 in Merrill, Wisconsin. At the age of one, his family moved to their farm near Suring, Wisconsin.
John and his brother began working with their father and grandfather doing cement work while they were both very young. He continued in the building trade from that point forward, working for a number of contractors throughout the years. In 1965, he began Bergmann Construction, Inc., which he ran until his retirement, and through which he met some of his best friends, as well as taught his sons the skills of homebuilding.
John loved to go fishing with his buddies and to go deer hunting up north. He enjoyed playing cribbage, Scratch and Sheepshead with his children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors. His musical tastes ran from polka music to classic country to light classical. Upon moving to Green Bay in 1956, John became a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay, serving on many committees throughout the years, including those that my wife and daughters are on.
He graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1953. On April 21, 1956, John married Leona (Ankerson) Bergmann at Our Redeemer's Church near Suring, Wisconsin. His wife survives him along with two sons, Robert (Kathy) Bergmann , Kaukauna; Douglas Bergmann, Lakewood; two daughters, Jane Bergmann, Green Bay and Karen (Eric) Diring, Daphne, Alabama. Other survivors include five grandchildren and one grandson-in-law, Audrey (Xiong) Lee, Erin Bergmann, Nicholas Bergmann, Rebekah Diring and Madison Diring; his sister Donna Druckrey, two sisters-in-laws, Darlene Bergmann and Ione Stender, and his Aunt Alice Hudson, along with several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kenneth, and his brother-in-law, James Druckrey.
A gathering will take place Wednesday, August 10 , from 4 to 8 pm at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S Ridge Road, Green Bay. On Thursday from 10 to 11 am a gathering will take place at Calvary Lutheran Church with a memorial service held at 11 am with Rev. Earl E Vorpagel III officiating. Burial to follow at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
A memorial fund has been established in John's memory.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Unity Hospice for the wonderful care and support they gave John during his long illness.
