Veda Fay (Bingham) Miller
May 20, 1917 - February 22, 2009

Veda Fay (Bingham) Miller, 91, went to be with the Lord after passing away at her home in Lacona, Iowa on Sunday, February 22, 2009. Veda was born on May 20, 1917 in Lucas County, Iowa to John and Sylvia Bingham.

She was united in marriage to Paul J. Miller in 1934. On March 15 of this year they would have celebrated 75 years together. They were blessed with six children: Harry, Melvin, Colene, Roberta, Joe, and John.

Veda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also an outstanding cook. Many, many Sundays she would prepare Sunday dinner not only for her whole family, but numerous times invited the different preachers from Vennard College to join them too. She found great joy in spending time with her family and always welcomed visitors into her home. She will be dearly missed by all.

Veda and Paul were faithful church members. For many years she taught Sunday school at Newbern Church. She was a member of the Newbern's Ladies Aid and also the Better Homes Club. Veda also loved playing the piano. She could listen to a song and then play it perfectly by ear. We all loved to sing around the piano as she would play.

Veda's family will treasure the many afghans, quilts, baby blankets, dish towels, etc. she made for all of them. She even taught Paul how to sew and he has made numerous quilts for all the family to enjoy too.

Veda truly loved to work and no one could keep up with her. This is one of the things she has missed doing these last few years. She worked at Burn's Locker in Lacona for several years. John Burn's would always say the only reason he made any money is because Veda could wrap meat faster than anyone. You might say she had an ornery side as you may catch her and Duane having a meat fight once in a while.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Lloyd (Buss), Harold Lee (Spot), and John Bingham, sisters: Irma Irving, Mabel Holmes, and Doris Kline, grandson: Michael Miller, and great-granddaughters: Jessica Luedtke and Amanda Dollison and son-in-law Garold Farrington.

Veda is survived by her husband Paul, her children: Harry (Ginger) Miller, Oklahoma City; Melvin (Trish) Miller, Lacona; Colene (Bob) Greubel, Lacona; Roberta Farrington, Lovilia; Joe (Ellie) Miller, Creston; and John (Kathy) Miller, Lacona.

Also surviving her are 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, her siblings Edith Lanning, California; Betty Hixon, Chariton; Ruth (Lynn) Crow, Iowa City; Raymond (Evalene) Bingham, Chariton; Clinton (Ursula) Bingham, Chariton; and Donnie (Lorna) Bingham, Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
