Mardell was born October 5, 1927 in Milo, Iowa to Stephen and Mary Derrough Mosher. She attended Franklin Center School and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1945. She was married to Walter Johnson on December 3, 1946. They were blessed with five children: Rodney (Sandy) Johnson of Dallas, Jane (Tom) Moore of Pleasant Hill, Steve (Rachel) Johnson of Huxley, Kathy (Bill) Fenton of Pleasantville, and Jeff (Edye) of Dunkerton. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Tim (Julie) Johnson, Jon (Marsha) Johnson, Jenny Glenn, Jackie Glenn, Chris (Susan) Johnson, Andy (Heather) Johnson, Brandon Bingham, Briar Fenton, Lane Johnson, Trace Johnson, and Clare Johnson; 4 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Rita Mosher. Mardell was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter, and brothers: Raymond, Don, Darrel, and Kent Mosher.
Mardell was a great mother and farmer's wife. Her family remembers all the gardening, canning, and cooking. She had flower and vegetable gardens and everyone remembers all the tomatoes. She was a short order cook fixing something different for everyone or something even if you weren't hungry. Mardell loved taking care of her family and being a grandma as she always made a big deal of the youngest child.
Mardell passed away February 12, 2010 at the Pleasant Care Nursing Center at the age of 82 years. She left behind a large family and many friends. For those desiring, memorial gifts can be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

"Kathy- You know how dear your mom was to me. I just now found out or I would certainly have come to the visitation to offer my condolences in person.
All of Mardell's family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this time of sadness, and in the days and weeks ahead as your hearts begin to mend.
You were a lucky family to have such a neat lady in your life!
