Mike Williams, age 85, of Alamo, TX, formerly of Albia, Iowa, past away on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, TX
Mike was born on August 27, 1924 in Grinnell, Iowa to Chant and Lela Faye (Millsap) Williams. Mike was one of three children. Mike grew up and attended school in Albia. He then entered the armed services, serving for the US Navy during WWII. Mike married Retha Lathrop and they were blessed with three children: Mike, Beverly, and Barbara. He worked as a City Mail Carrier in Albia and also a Rural Mail Carrier for thirty-seven years. Mike later married Dorothy Louise Johnson. Dorothy recently passed away on March 6, 2010.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Howard Cessna Post 136 in Albia. Mike also was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Mike had a place on the Des Moines River, and cherished time spent there with his family. He also enjoyed remolding houses, and golfing.
Mike is survived by one son: Michael Jr. (Barbara) Williams of Spring Water, NY; two daughters: Beverly (David) Kooker of Albia, and Barbara Wignall of Portland, OR; one step-son, Steve (Rhonda) Palmer of Ottumwa. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and one brother Perry (Martha) Williams of Tallulah, LA.
Mike is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; one sister Lula Forrest; and two brothers, Alvin and Dale.
