Stephen Edward Sinnott, age 72, of Albia, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Monroe County Hospital under the care of Hospice of Monroe County. Steve was born on May 16, 1938 in Melrose to Leo and Alice (O'Brien) Sinnott. Steve was raised in Georgetown, IA.
Steve worked for Chamberlains Manufacturing for thirty years. He retired from Maytag after fourteen years as a tool and dye specialist. Steve married his high school sweetheart Tish (Rogers) on January 26, 1957 in Albia. They had fifty-four years of marriage together, and were blessed with seven children: Kitty (Steve) VanderHart of Pella, Stephanie (Jeff) Bettis of Albia, Felicia (Joe) Starcevich of Centerville, Leo Sinnott has preceded Steve in death, Charlie (Traci Mericle) Sinnott of Albia, Robin Sinnott who preceded Steve in death, and Roger Sinnott of Albia, and a special family member Nancy (Jess) Benge.
Steve was a life long Knights of Columbus member and also a long time 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He was also a 1-2 long time American Legion member.
He was a great friend to many with a big, soft heart. He enjoyed, "like a good neighbor once said": Faith, Family, Friends, and Fun!!
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alice Sinnott; Son, Leo Sinnott; daughter in infancy, Robin Sinnott; brothers, John F., Bernard, and Robert; and sister, Mary Lou Hirchak
He is survived by his wife, children; eleven grandchildren: Jessica (Joe) Carley, Cassie (Drew) Ryken, Cody Jones, Austin Post (Lexi), Ally, Brooke, and Skyler Bettis, Tatum, Olivia, and Michael Starcevich, and Payton Sinnott; two great grandsons, Dylon Carley, and Kaden Ryken. Steve is also survived by two sisters, Donna Proctor, and Margie (John) Pasut, and one brother, Dick (JoAnn) Sinnott, and one aunt, Ruth O'Brien.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia with Father Mike Volkmer officiating. Steve's body will be cremated following services per his wishes. Visitation will take place on Friday, March 18, 2011, opening to the public at 11:00 a.m. and the family will be present Friday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Albia. There will also be a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service, 4:00 p.m. Rosary Service, and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard conducted at the funeral home.
