Juanita Eloise Carey
June 10, 1930 - December 26, 2011

Juanita Eloise Carey gently left this life on Monday, December 26, 2011 after a stay at Israel Family Hospice. Her death was due to complications of a stroke and Alzheimer's.
Juanita was born June 10, 1930 in Herndon, Iowa to August and Isabelle (Fulks) Wild. She married Donald Carey on February 6, 1947 in Stuart, Iowa. They moved to Nevada, Iowa in 1951. She was co-owner of Varsity Cleaners, where she worked side-by-side with her husband for 40 years.
Juanita had a tremendous work ethic and greatly enjoyed serving her customers. She was a model of kindness, compassion and humility. She had a lifelong interest in current events and was a behind the scenes activist in numerous political and social justice causes. She embraced diversity and her generosity knew no bounds. She was a member of St. Francis study club for more than 50 years.
Juanita brightened the lives of and will be dearly missed by her survivors, including husband Don Carey of Nevada, son Pat Carey of Nevada, daughter Lynne Carey and son-in-law Navid Emami of Nevada, brother Mervyn (Peggy) Wild of Nevada, sister Beverly (Gary Thompson) Wild of Guthrie Center, sister Kathy (Darell) Christensen of Dale City, extended family and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant siblings.
Juanita requested no flowers and no traditional services. In honor of her request, a non-traditional "event" is planned from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 7th at St. Patrick's Fellowship Hall in Nevada. There will be a short program at 3p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Food Bank of Iowa or an organization of choice.
