Maxine Sunderman

Maxine Elizabeth Warner Sunderman was born January 5, 1925 in rural Bethesda, Iowa to Anselm Lawrence and Maude Vinessa Warner. Maxine passed away August 5, 2006 at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah at the age of 81.

In her early childhood, Maxine lived on the family farm between Bethesda and Hepburn, Iowa. She attended rural country school in Douglas Township and graduated high school in 1943 from Clarinda High School. On March 17, 1946 Maxine was united in marriage to Clifford Harry Sunderman in Bethesda, Iowa. The couple made their new home in rural Coin, Iowa.

Maxine worked for the FBI in 1943 in Washington, D.C., the Southern Pacific Railroad in Pleasanton, CA from 1944-1945 and at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah from 1983 - 1992. She was a member of 4-H, Ladies Aid and she was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Mary Brownlee; mother & father-in-law, Minnie and Emil Sunderman; sister-in-laws, Lyde Sunderman and Florence Sunderman and brother-in-laws, Mervil and Roger Sunderman.

She is survived by her husband Clifford of Shenandoah; daughter, Karlette Thornton and husband Dennis of Coin, Iowa; daughter Charmaine Sunderman of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jake Thornton and wife Jillinda of Coin, Iowa;, Aaron Sunderman of Omaha, Nebraska, Jamie Hutt and husband Paul of Sidney, Iowa, Josh Thornton and friend Karen of Northboro, Iowa and Nathaniel Thornton of Coin, Iowa and Ashley Thornton of Essex, Iowa; great grandchildren, Samantha Thornton, Kayleigh Hutt, Braidy Hutt, Emily Hutt and Cole Thornton; other relatives friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at the Coin United Methodist Church in Coin, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Carl Phillips. Organist was Phyllis Reece. Soloist was Mike Bix, who sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Caring for the flowers were Patty Sunderman and Helen Reed. Attending the memory register was Connie Sollars. Ushers were Tim Sollars and Jim Berry. Casket bearers were Jacob Thornton, Joshua Thornton, Nathaniel Thornton, Aaron Sunderman, Paul Hutt and Richard Sunderman. Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery at Coin. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
