Lowell K. Anderson
Lowell Kermit Anderson, son of Albert Edward and Claudia Elizabeth (Morton) Anderson, was born on July 29, 1913, in rural Coin, Iowa, on the family farm. He passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2007, in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 94.

His early life growing up was spent on the home place farm where he was born. Lowell started first grade in College Springs and graduated from Amity High School in College Springs with the Class of 1930. After graduating at the age of 16, and taking one year of post secondary work in business, Lowell and his friends traveled widely throughout the West and Midwest.

On January 18, 1939, Lowell was united in marriage to Ruth Marie Grafft in the College Springs Presbyterian Church parsonage. Following their marriage they farmed in Colfax Township of Page County. Lowell was a lifelong farmer. He especially took great interest and care in the raising of his livestock. Farming was a lifelong passion for him.

Lowell joined the College Springs Presbyterian Church at the age of twelve. He rode his horse to the church to become a member. He served as a Trustee and Elder in the church for many years. He also served on the College Springs Consolidated Schools Board and the South Page Community School Board. He was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. In addition to farming, Lowell took great interest in his family and their activities. He enjoyed traveling and keeping up on the local and world news. Reading on a daily basis kept him well informed on his various interests.

Preceding Lowell in death were his father, A. E. Anderson (born in Australia); mother, Claudia Morton Anderson; sister, Gladys Bair; brother-in-law, Arthur Bair; nephew, Lowell Bair; and granddaughter, Susan Barlow. He is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Ruth Marie Grafft Anderson. Their legacy includes their seven children and 43 grandchildren: Judith Marie Nelson of Lake Barrington, IL, and her two children, Samuel Peter Nelson and Melinda Sue Nelson and her children, Cassidy and Reese Axtman and Willow Ruth Nelson; Joyce Irene Richardson of Cameron, MO, and her children, Donald Lowell Richardson and wife Joetta, Darien Richardson and wife Chontel and their children Cameron and Marissa, Krista Helton and husband Jim and their children Jared and Josh Thompson; Linda Kay Meyer and husband Keith of Shenandoah, IA, and children, Lisa Carlson and husband Terry and their children Jenna and Jaimee Carlson, Craig Barlow, Chad Anderson Barlow and daughter Chelsey Barlow; David Bruce Anderson and wife Jenell of Coin, IA, their children, Lee Anderson and wife Leeann and their children Evan and Maia Anderson, Lori Anderson and her children Claire and Elijah Wood; Paul Kermit Anderson and wife Karen of Coin, IA, their children Matthew Anderson and wife Kerri and their children Madalynn and Anna, Mark and Meridith Anderson and their children Emma and Graeme Anderson, Eric and Dawn Anderson and their children, Emily and Elijah Anderson, Kristin and Dustin Fast and their son, Cody Fast, Jill and John King and their children, Nathan and Callie King; Ellen Sue Jeselnik and husband Burke of Kansas City, MO, and their children, Katrina Elizabeth Jeselnik and Ryan Joseph Jeselnik; Lucinda Jane Goudie and husband Steve of Topeka, KS, and their children, Patrick Allen Petry and wife Melissa and their children, Zachary and Logan Petry, Amy Lucinda Petry and Brenda McCarty; cousins, Taffy Morton and Mary Lou Knepper; other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life memorial services were held on Friday, September 14, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the College Springs United Presbyterian Church in College Springs, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. James Crapson and Rev. Allan Bash. Organist was Darla Burch. The congregation sang "The Old Rugged Cross", "Blessed Assurance" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand". Special organ music was "Amazing Grace". Caring for the flowers were Audrey Bair and Charlotte Hiedelberger. Attending the memory register were Ellen McClure ane Marie Van Fosson. Ushers were Randy Bair and Joe Farquhar. Honorary bearers were all of Lowell's grandsons and granddaughters. Private inurnment was in the Elmwood Cemetery in Coin, Iowa. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are being directed to the College Springs Fire and Rescue or to the College Springs Presbyterian Church.
