Dale D. Morelock

Dale Duane Morelock, son of David Doyle and Hazel Pearl (Howard) Morelock, was born on January 25, 1925, at his parent's home six miles east of Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, at the age of 82.

His early life was spent on a farm southeast of Farragut where he attended Centennial country school. The Morelock family later moved back to the Shenandoah area on a farm north of town. Dale attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1942. Following high school he farmed for one year before entering the military in October 1944. Dale trained in Texas and both the West and East coasts. After basic training he spent time in the Phillipines and in Japan. In the Phillipines he was an "infantry scout" and "led the way" for his unit. In Japan he helped rebuild the country after the bombings. Dale was on the ship next to the U. S. S. Missouri when the peace treaty was signed and was able to witness the signing. He was honorably discharged in November of 1946. He returned to Iowa to help on the family farm. Shortly thereafter he also worked for Northboro-Coin Telephone Co. for four months.

On August 29, 1948, Dale was united in marriage to Evelyn Chapman at Bedford, Iowa. They farmed 7 1/4 miles northeast of Bedford, Iowa, near Conway for seven years before moving to the Hood farm 9 miles south of Shenandoah in 1955. Dale also worked at the box factory for three years, then Farmers Co-op Exchange for ten years and one and half years at Topland Fertilizer. In 1972, Dale and Evelyn introduced Morelock Feed Company which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1992.

Ballroom dancing was a great passion for both Dale and Evelyn and brought much enjoyment. He also loved to fish with his kids and grandsons. He enjoyed, working outside on the farm and taking trips with Niehart tours with Evelyn and their friends. Dale and Evelyn took a lot of trips around the world with Wayne Feed Company. He also drew great enjoyment from the famous pinnocle games at family dinners.

Dale was a long time member of the Northboro United Methodist Church; American Legion Post # 88 for 50 years; Nebraska City Eagles Club for 38 years and the Shenandoah Elks Club for 20 years.

Preceding Dale in death were his parents; sister, Wilma Aileen and her husband John Akers; brother, Wayne and his wife Maxine Morelock. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Evelyn; son, David Morelock of Essex, IA; daughter, Sandra Morelock of Essex, IA; grandson, Aaron Morelock and his wife Michelle and their sons, Devin and Drew of Coin, IA; granddaughter, Alexis Morelock of Lemont, IL; grandson, David Morelock of Omaha, NE; sister, Mildred Hawn and her husband Lowell of College Springs, IA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Celebration of life funeral services were held on Friday, October 5, 2007, at the Northboro United Methodist Church. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Beatrice Kinzler. Organist was Karen Thompson. Caring for the flowers were Faye Rolf, Dorothy Walter, Beth Apperson, Darlene Eitzen and Joan Lynn. Attending the memory register were Phyllis Kemper and Evelyn Whipple. Ushers were Randall Apperson, Darrell Whitehill and Howard Carlson. Casket bearers were Larry Lauman, Greg Graham, Tim Christensen, Jerry Gomel, Jim Henderson and Don "Bart" Bartholomew. Honorary bearers were Tom Lynn, Jim Whipple, Gerald Walter, Norman Kemper, Lowell Lauman, Ed Harms, Alan Sump, Neil Cutler and Spencer Lauman. Military rites were accorded by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery at Coin, Iowa. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
