David Charles Dickerson, son of Carl and Lois (Gruber) Dickerson, was born on February 18, 1945 in Shenandoah, Iowa and passed away at his home Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the age of 62. Dave grew up playing football, baseball, and competing on the swim team. He began his working career at the Hy-Vee Food Store in Shenandoah while still in high school. It was here that he first met Lynda Howard and the two were married on January 23, 1965. Three children; Brett, Shelly, and Jason, were born to this union.
Dave began working for the Eaton Corporation in 1972 and retired in 2001 after 29 years of service. During this time he was a member of the Eaton Bowling team and golf league. Dave was an avid fisherman and spent as much time as he could on the water in his fishing boat. Dave was an active member of the community, having served on the United Way Board, the Booster Club Board, and two terms on the Park Board. He also served two years as a coach for the Shenandoah Swim Team.
After retirement, Dave went to work part-time for Wal-Mart before he and Lynda decided to move to Tennessee where Dave worked at his sister and brother-in-law's campground near Townsend. Dave and Lynda missed their children and grandchildren and, after 18 months, moved back to their hometown. Once back in Shenandoah, Dave worked at the Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits store before his illness forced him into permanent retirement.
Dave is survived by his wife, Lynda; son, Brett and wife Lorene of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Shelly (Anderson) and husband Bruce of Shenandoah; son, Jason and wife Nikki of Shenandoah; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, Aubrey, Logan, and Jayden. Dave is also survived by his brothers, Dean and wife Sherry of Anita, IA, Jack and wife Elaine of Shenandoah, Paul and wife Gerry of Lone Tree, IA, Allan and wife Amy of Jacksonville, FL, Bill and wife Teri of Essex, IA; sisters, Mary (Chipperfield) and husband Norm of Townsend, TN, Terry (Voth) and husband Paul of Independence, KS, and Becky (Duke) and husband Jim also of Independence, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
