Margaret Morrison

Margaret E. Morrison, age 83 of Shenandoah (formerly of Chariton) passed away on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Shenandoah Medical Center after a bout with cancer.

Margaret was born on July 3, 1925 in Warren Township, Lucas County, Iowa; the daughter of Worth Sprott and Laura Blanche (Schreck) Mitchell. She was the ninth of thirteen children.

Margaret attended grade school in Warren Township and graduated from Chariton High School in 1942. She then received a Normal Training Teachers Certificate in 1942 and taught at Braden Country School for one and a half years.

On September 5, 1943 she was united in marriage to Bobbie Lavern Morrison at the First Christian Church in Princeton, Missouri. They resided in Chariton before moving back to Shenandoah in 1953 where Bob managed the Hy-Vee Grocery Store. Margaret was the bookkeeper until they both retired in 1980. They enjoyed working together, golf, and traveling. The couple spent the winter months at the home in Rio Verde, Arizona. Margaret later had a winter home in Henderson, Nevada.

Margaret was a member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah, Christian Women's Fellowship, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and siblings Lois Mitchell, Willard Dale Mitchell, Kenneth Mitchell, Gerald "Jerry Mitchell, Calvin Mitchell, Dorothy Mitchell and Edna Stansbery

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Linda Rae Brower and husband James of Henderson, NV; son Stephen Lee Morrison and wife Cecilia Denise of Omaha, NE; grandchildren; Elizabeth Sue Standefer and husband Jack of Cedar Rapids, IA, Paul James Brower and wife Amber of Reno, NV, Julie Elizabeth Morrison of Omaha, NE, Robert Stephen Morrison of Omaha, NE and Stephanie Leigh Morrison of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren; Aaron James Standefer, Nicholas John Standefer, Joshua Paul Standefer, Haley Joan Brower and James Trudeau Brower; siblings; Evelyn Oxenreider of Chariton, IA, Bernard Mitchell and wife Leila of Chariton, IA, Joe Mitchell and wife Mary of Albia, IA, Frank Mitchell of Chariton, IA and Richard Mitchell and wife Mary of Las Vegas, NE; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa with Rev. Karen Bash officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 2:45 p.m. at the Chariton Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church in Shenandoah.

I think back to the days of my employment at Hy-Vee on Sheridan Ave. and remember her sitting in the above floor level office,doing her work and once in awhile she would look out over the store checking on her customers and making sure that we employees were keeping busy.She instilled in all of us young people a good work ethic. I was also privleged to have her as a customer in my Plumbing business. She will be missed. Bill Ditmars"
