Daniel P. "Dan" Long

Daniel Paul Long, was born on December 1, 1937 in Westboro, Missouri, the son of Arthur Edwin and Marjorie Helen (Leek) Long. Dan entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Dan's early years were spent in the communities of Westboro, Tarkio, and Essex. He graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1956. He later served his country as a soldier in the United States Army.
On November 27, 1979 he was united in marriage to Lou Adkins in Carson City, Nevada. They resided in Woodland, California until 1981 when they returned to Southwest Iowa to reside in the Essex/Shenandoah area.
During his working days Dan was employed as the Plant Manager at Farmaster in Shenandoah. He also farmed, and worked as a truck driver for AgCom, Tiemeyer Inc. and Sterling McLaren. He was a member of the Shenandoah Elks Lodge. Some of his interests included raising club calves, angus cattle, and horses. He also enjoyed telling stories and spending time with his grandchildren. Dan was an avid reader and was always up for going to coffee. Thinking of others, Dan donated his cornea's to the Lion's Eye Bank of Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Leroy Long, and a sister Helen May Bowles. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Luella Belle Long of the home; daughter Valerie Glenn and husband Ivan of Farragut, IA; step-children Pam Christy and husband Bob of Goodyear, AZ, Doug Adkins and wife Sherie of Longmont, CO and Tammy Lauman and husband Larry of Coin, IA; grandchildren Ashley and Allison Million of Marshalltown, IA, Jonathan Million of Farragut, IA, Travis and Doan Christy of Tolleson, AZ, Ryane Christy and fiancé Tom Drochner of Memphis, TN, Tyler Christy of Tolleson, AZ, Sven and Trisha Adkins of Aurora, CO, Alexis Adkins of Greeley, CO, Donathon Palmer of Westminster, CO, Mackenzie Lauman of Omaha, NE and Spencer Lauman of Aberdeen, SD; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Linda Lewis and husband John of Shenandoah, IA; brothers Jim Long and wife Joyce of Essex, IA, Kenney Long and wife Janis of Red Oak, IA, Marvin Long and wife Barbara of Vian, OK, and Jack Long and wife Penny of Walling, TN; other family and a host of friends.

He may have given me heck when I would take care of him, however he had that ornery smile that made me smile. He was one of my favorite patients. He is in heaven and smiling down on all of us now.
