"My sympathy to the family."
Marjorie E. (Tillman) Quist, daughter of Martin and Florence (Lawson) Tillman, was born on October 9, 1913 in Tarkio Township, Page County, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 26, 2011 at Fair Oaks Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 97 years, 3 months, 7 days.
Growing up on the family farm in Page County, Marjorie attended Hillsdale country school and the Shenandoah Community Schools. She was baptized and confirmed in 1929 at the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman, Iowa.
On October 15, 1947, Marjorie was united in marriage to Donovan Quist at Fremont Lutheran Church. To this union were born two sons, Douglas and Randall.
Earlier in her career, Marjorie worked at Leacox-Redfield Drugstore in Shenandoah and for Union Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher in Hood River, Oregon. Later in life, she chose to work on the family farm and raise a family. Her greatest joys were times spent with her family, cooking and working outside gardening and planting flowers.
One of her greatest accomplishments was winning the Pillsbury Bake-off Contest. Marjorie was selected as one of the nation's best cooks and won a trip to Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1991, Marjorie moved to Holmes' Apartments on Center St. where she lived for over 19 years until spending the last year at Fair Oaks Care Center in Shenandoah. She was very thankful for the loving care she received from the Holmes family, Fair Oaks Care Center, the Iowa Hospice and her visits from Pastor Steve.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Donovan Quist in 1989; and brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Virginia Tillman. Survivors include her two sons, Randall Quist and wife Nancy of Red Oak, IA and Douglas Quist and wife Connie of Shenandoah; three grandchildren, Darin Quist of North Liberty, IA, Melanie Weston and husband Rollie of Bondurant, IA and Natalie Wedemeier and husband Josh of Ankeny, IA; two great grandchildren , Libby and Gage Weston of Bondurant, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
