In loving memory of

L. Glenn Shafer
July 16, 1916 - February 10, 2012

Lennious Glenn Shafer, 95, of Argyle, Iowa, died at 4:45 pm Friday, February 10, 2012, in Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa. He had been residing in the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Missouri.

Glenn was born on July 16, 1916, the son of Lennious and Callie Shafer. His family resided and farmed south of Wayland, Missouri, until his adult years when they moved to a farm near Argyle. He farmed the land for roughly 50 years. He was united in marriage to Helen May Shafer on July 30, 1938. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary before Helen passed away in 2007.

Survivors include: two beloved daughters, Patricia Blacksmith and her husband John of Argyle, Iowa and Lynn Johnson from Fairfield, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tamara and Greg Reynolds of Argyle, Marianne and Brian Jacobson of St. Louis, Eric and Jenna Johnson of Oxford, Iowa, Jamie Johnson of Burlington, Vermont, and Kristopher Johnson of Pella, Iowa. Four great grandchildren, Serena, Kiersten and Alyson Reynolds, and Avery Bantrup. Nephews, Robert Fox and his wife, Linda of Keokuk, Iowa and Lewis Higbee and his wife Joyce of Argyle, Iowa and one niece Jean Koch and her husband Harvey of Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Doug Johnson.

Glenn was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the First Baptist Church and a devoted conservationist. Along with being a lifelong farmer, he was an accomplished gardener. He was an active conservationist building habitats for game and fish on his farm throughout the years. He particularly enjoyed fishing; from a quick hour or two on local ponds to trips to lakes in Canada. Also going hand in hand with his devotion to nature was his love of dogs. Raising and training pointers for hunting as well as just always having a good old friend to greet of a morning.

Services celebrating his life will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 14th at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Friends may call at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau from 2:00 pm till 8:00 pm Monday February 13th. Visitation with family from 6:00 pm to 8:00 PM.

Memorials are suggested to Clark County Nursing Home and the American Diabetes Association.

"Glen was a cousin to my mother, Emma Schevers Printy. I remember her saying he was her favorite cousin and that he was very handsome! My mother passed away in 1994 at age 87. I worked at Keokuk Area Hospital so I did see Glen there once in a while. I am retired and have moved to Liberty, MO. My brother, Jim Printy, still lives in the house we all grew up in. I was checking and replacing it and while I was doing the work we visited about how much family meant to both of us. Be assured that Glen loved you all."
