"Diana, thanks for letting me know of Darlene's passing. She was a good friend for many years. I enjoyed working with her at BMC where I had my first job. She thought I needed a mother away from home. I remember making a few trips with her and some other friends up north to the little mexican restaurant in Grandview. I am so glad I got to talk with her just before Christmas last year. We always exchanged Christmas cards or phone calls each year at Christmas since I moved from Burlington over 25 yrs ago. "Grandma" Darlene will always have a special place in my heart. My son has a basketball tournament this weekend otherwise we would be there. Be comforted knowing she lived a full life and will be remembered fondly by many people."

"In her teens, Darlene always had time for the kids across the alley. I'll always remember her smile, the long chats with her and her sister on her mother's front porch swing, on long ago summer evenings. Riding along with her to pick Sonny up after his late night shift at Sweetheart Bakery in Burlington. My deepest sympathies to her daughters and other family members."

"Debbie and Diane and Families. I will always remember Darlene's, Irma Nixon's and my trip to Alaska. We had so much fun together. Also, I remember the nice camping trip to Branson in the summer of 1995 that Sonny and Darlene, and Irl and I went on. We had such a good time. I always liked to go shopping with Darlene - that was one of her favorite things to do. We had many happy camping week-ends at Young's Lake outside of Kirkwood, IL. I'm so sorry that I won't be back in Burlington in time to attend Darlene's visition and funeral, but I'm still in Florida with Brad - will be home on March 6th. I won't be there in person, but I will be there in spirit. Thoughts and Prayers! Love, Marilyn Shamp"
