MUSCATINE, Iowa - Jackwyn A. Opel, 87, of Muscatine, died on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Zion Lutheran Church. Chaplain Vicki Pedersen of Lutheran Homes will officiate the service. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary bearers will her great-grandchildren. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

Jackwyn was born on January 7, 1925, in Muscatine, the daughter of Carl and Emma Dammann Tiecke. She married Robert 'Mopie' Opel on March 22, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1983.

She previously owned and operated the Sand Mound Restaurant with her friend, Bette Anson, and later retired from the American Legion.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion, and was a life-long member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Those left to honor her memory include a daughter, Joleen Schnedler and husband, Roy, of Muscatine; a son-in-law, Lyle Lee of Mystic; six grandchildren, Maribeth Freland and husband, Mark, Kim Hilsabeck and husband, Dave, Keri Ashby and husband, Darin, Matt Schnedler and wife, Sue, Jason Lee and wife, Marcie, and Angie Morris and husband, Brian; 15 great-grandchildren, Randy Price and wife, Tara, Jill Mundt, Jason Freland, Joel Freland, Amanda Hilsabeck, Chris Hilsabeck, Jeremy Hilsabeck and wife, Ashley, Tyler Ashby, Alison Ashby, Abbey Schnedler, Owen Schnedler, Austin Lee, Alexa Lee, Mason Morris, and Mya Morris; many great great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl A. Tiecke and wife, Dorothy, of Muscatine; two nephews, Clark Tiecke and wife, Carolyne, and Trent Tiecke; one niece, Denise Cooney and husband, Al; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Judy Lee; one grandson, Brian Schnedler; one brother, Robert Tiecke; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Anna Opel; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Louie Grimm.

"Sorry i havent been in touch till now. i loved Jackie sooo much . I was looking for her at lunch and the nurse told me she passed away that morning. i just felt numb. She got upset with me every great now and then but I could usually get her happy. She liked to tell me which girls were the good ones and rat on the ones that werent. she was so funny-she had sooo many stories. I trully enjoyed getting to know her . She sat and talked with me about Mildreds passing and it helped ease the pains-she told me you know when you reach our age and everything stops working right and theres not a darn thing u can do about it sometimes u wish hed just take u to the pain free zone-that always made me smile-the pain free zone-i hope shes up there with Mildred and Monroe and all our other loved ones just having the time of her life. I really miss her. God Bless you all during this time of loss."
