Gary Delwyn Hackett, one of three children of Harold Richard and Hazel Lucille (Kinzer) Hackett, was born at Council Bluffs, IA on June 30, 1947. Gary's early childhood was spent on a farm east of Oakland, IA where he attended Butler School. When Gary was in the third grade, the family moved to Henderson, IA and eventually to Macedonia, IA where he attended junior high school. Gary graduated from the Carson Macedonia High School in 1966 and is remembered as an outstanding high school basketball player and athlete. After graduation, Gary lived with his brother Richard and family in Omaha, NE where he worked at Siez Auto Parts. He soon found employment with Arnold's Tool and Die Company in Council Bluffs and received on-the-job training to become a machinist.
On April 8, 1967, Gary and Joyce Marie Boruff were married at the Carson United Methodist Church. They established their first home in Council Bluffs. In 1973, they moved to a home in Carson, IA and their marriage was blessed with three children Lori Lynn, Corey James, and Amy Sue. Gary's enjoyments included his family, horseshoes, softball, and music.
Gary and Joyce had been married 23 years when Joyce died on November 18, 1990. Gary continued to live in Carson where he died at his home on May 9, 2002 having attained the age of 54 years, 10 months, and 9 days. In addition to his wife Joyce, Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary is survived by his children Lori Lynn Hackett, Corey James Hackett and his fiancé Loree Clausen, and Amy Sue Hackett all of Council Bluffs; sister Rose Hackett of Oakland, and brother Richard Hackett and his wife Norma of Omaha; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
