Darrell Edward Taylor, one of three sons of John Edward and Darlene Hope (Edmondson) Taylor, was born in Henderson, Iowa on May 14, 1936. He grew up in the Hastings, Iowa area and graduated from Hastings High School in 1954. After graduation, Darrell enlisted in the U.S. Army and served at Fort Lewis, Washington until 1956. For the next two years, Darrell drove a fruit delivery truck for Sno-Boy in Omaha, Nebraska and in 1958 re-enlisted in the Army. He became a paratrooper and was stationed at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. On September 14, 1959, Darrell and Darlene Marie Judah were married in Malvern, Iowa. In 1961, following his discharge in the service, Darrell and Darlene returned to Hastings and Darrell began his life long career as an over-the-road truck driver. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Danny Paul and Jimmie Jon. Darrell and Darlene had been married for 29 years when Darlene died suddenly on March 8, 1989.

On July 7, 1990, Darrell married Nancy Ann Brotherson at Hamlin, Iowa and they made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska and Darrell continued his truck driving career.

Darrell was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September of 2002. He died at his home in Lincoln on February 17, 2003 at the age of 66 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Darlene. He is survived by his wife Nancy of Lincoln; sons Danny Taylor and his wife Tracy, and Jimmie Taylor all of Malvern, Iowa; stepsons Michael Brotherson and his wife Charlotte of Panama, Nebraska, and James Brotherson and his wife Kerri of Paducah, Kentucky; brothers Paul Taylor and his wife Lana of Hastings and Dan Taylor and his wife Mickey of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
