Lilly Geneva Bolton was born in Jamestown, New York on August 18, 1923. The only daughter of immigrant parents, Emma (Nygren) and Roland Swanson, grew up in the Bronx area and attended many different schools. Following her graduation from high school, Lilly moved to western Nebraska to live with her mother and step-father. She later relocated to Council Bluffs, Iowa where she worked as a waitress.
In 1957, Lilly and Kermit E. Long of Carson, Iowa were married and made their home on the farm outside of Carson. Lilly and Kermit had been married 32 years when Kermit died on March 20, 1989.
Lilly continued to live at her home and on January 1, 1990, she and Harvey Dean Bolton of Carson were married. Lilly's failing health forced her to move to the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa on November 3, 2003. Lilly and Harvey were married nearly 14 years when Lilly died at the Griswold Care Center on December 18, 2003. She had attained the age of 80 years and 4 months.
Lilly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kermit Long, and her half-brothers Guss Bergman and Elmer Bergman. She is survived by her husband Harvey Bolton of Carson, Iowa step-son Jim Bolton and his wife Sandi of Akron, IA; step grand children Dacia Bolton Bates and her husband Kevin of Merrill, IA and Carissa Bolton Lewis and her husband Matt and their children Kirsten and Draeden of Remsen, IA.
