December 23, 2005

Everett Anton Knop, one of 13 children of Herman Carl Frederick and Alma Emilie (Leu) Knop, was born July 24, 1909 at Garner, IA. The family moved to a farm northeast of Malvern, IA in 1918. Everett attended the Pleasant Valley and Golden Hills country schools as well as the Malvern High School. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Hastings, Iowa. Following school, Everett helped his parents on the family farm. He loved music and dancing and played in a Malvern band. When the band broke up, Everett started an area band playing for fairs, parties, many church activities, and the Henderson Rodeo. Everett played the trumpet in the Knop Orchestra with brothers Louis, Lester, and Fritz. In the 1920's, they played for many dances throughout the area including Malvern's first high school prom.
Everett and Marie Seeger were married on December 27, 1933 at St. John's Lutheran Church and built a home on their farm northeast of Malvern. Their marriage was blessed with two children; Nancy Marie and Donald Everett. In his spare time in the winter, Everett remodeled kitchens by building cupboards and was also the community barber. In 1954, the family moved to the William Mass farm north of Malvern where Everett farmed for 21 years. Marie and Everett were active at St. John's Lutheran Church where he held many church offices and served on the building committee when they remodeled the church. He later directed the church choir for many years. They were both very active in the girls and boys 4-H clubs in Mills County. Everett was a charter member of the Dutch Gun Club, building his own No. 3 pushball car, and playing pushball with his fellow Dutchman throughout Nebraska and Iowa. He and Marie had been married 31 years when Marie died as a result of surgery on March 14,1964 at the age of 51.
Everett married Vivian Mabel Mohar of Omaha, NE on August 7, 1965 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, NE. They lived and worked together on the farm until they retired in 1975 and moved to Omaha. They purchased a home in McAllen, TX where they enjoyed spending their winters. They had been married nearly 35 years at the time of Vivian's death on July 5, 2000. Everett then moved into his apartment house in Omaha. He continued his winter trips to Texas enjoying his citrus trees and the warm weather. In April of 2005, due to failing health, Everett moved to the Brighton Gardens of Omaha. On December 23, 2005, Everett died at the Gardens at the age of 96 years, 4 months, and 29 days.
