Donald Louis Owens

Donald Louis Owens, one of nine children of John William Owens and Rose Susanna (Duehr) Owens, was born at Imogene, Iowa on September 11, 1930. Donald grew up in the Imogene area and graduated from Imogene High School in 1949.
Donald soon started working at the Union Carbide battery factory in Red Oak, Iowa where he met Wanetta Jean Thompson. Donald and Wanetta were married on December 2, 1950 in Red Oak. The next year they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and became members of Queen of Apostles Catholic Church. Donald briefly worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska before he began a 47 year career as a heavy machinery mechanic working for LeRoy Wayd & Sons of Omaha. He was a member of the A.F.L.-C.I.O. "Teamsters" Union Local No. 554. Donald and Wanetta were blessed with five children, Michael, Terry, Teresa, Christina, and Donald. Treatment for lung cancer forced Donald to retire in 1987.
On March 24, 2004, Donald and Wanetta moved to Tabor, Iowa. Donald enjoyed time spent with his family and other enjoyments included woodworking, fishing and camping. Donald died at his home on May 17, 2006 at the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 6 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers Paul and Eugene; brother Jay Owens and sisters Margaret Letek and Louise Martin.
Donald is survived by his wife Wanetta Owens of Tabor; children Michael Owens and wife Janene of Malvern, Terry Owens and wife Rene of Krum, TX, Teresa Udron and husband Gary of Omaha, NE, Christina Wilkinson and husband Edd of Springfield, MO and Donald Owens and wife Keily of Oakland, IA; sister Anna Rose Bryte of Mesa, AZ; brothers Kenneth Owens of Pacific Junction, IA and Justin Owens of Imogene, IA; 18 grandchild ren and 15 great grandchildren.
