Virginia Adelaide Linquist, one of five children of Sanford "Joy" and Adina "Ada" Grace (Kinney) Parker, was born on a farm east of Glenwood, Iowa on April 27, 1918. During Virginia's childhood, the family moved from Glenwood to Malvern, Iowa and then to Tabor, Iowa where Virginia graduated from Tabor High School in 1936. Following high school, she briefly worked as a housekeeper in Omaha, Nebraska and later obtained a job with the Soil Conservation Service in the Shenandoah, Iowa office.
Virginia and Charles "Howard" Linquist were married at the Shenandoah Methodist Church on September 7, 1941. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Charles Edward and daughter, Judith Ann. They continued to live in Shenandoah where Virginia sang in the church choir. Howard entered military service and the family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where Virginia again sang in the church choir at Broadway Methodist Church and served six years as treasurer of the Council Bluffs Women's Society. She had the starring role in several community plays and accompanied high school students in their music contests. While in Council Bluffs, Howard managed several Rog and Scotty's Super Value grocery stores.
Virginia and Howard had been married for 32 years when Howard died in 1973. Virginia continued to live in Council Bluffs until 1991 when she moved to Harlan, Iowa.
Virginia passed away on May 12, 2008 at Myrtue Hospital in Harlan at the age of 90 years and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard; son Charles Linquist; sister Bonnie Jean Nelson and husband Toke; brother Walton "Bud" Parker and wife Toadie; and sister-in-law Marjorie Parker. She is survived by her daughter Judith Vorsten and husband Gerald of Carroll, Iowa; six grandchildren, Mike Linquist and wife Tracy, Alana Carpenter, Greg Linquist and wife Toni, Steven Lynch and wife Stacy, Carolyn Lynch, David Lynch and wife Jennifer; seven great grandchildren, and two step grandchildren; sister Geneva Golden of Lee's Summit, MO and brother Robert Parker of Independence, MO; nieces and nephews; other loved ones and friends.
Interment at Malvern Cemetery.
