Wanda L. Canale

Wanda Louise Canale, daughter of Louise (Watkins) and Thomas Chester DeWitt, was born on February 26, 1934 in Cairo, Illinois. She graduated from high school and attended college for two years.

Wanda married Bud Sutterfield and their marriage was blessed with sons Michael, Thomas, John and Brian. She married Johnny Lee Gatlin and their marriage was blessed with children, Jona and Walter. Wanda also had two sons with J.D. Romines; Tim and Jim. While living and working in Los Angeles, California, she met Dominic Daniel Canale, fondly known as Tony. They were married on November 5, 1972 in Culver City, California and their family grew to include Tony's daughters, Nadine and Davina, and Wanda's children, Tom, John, Brian, Jona, Walter, Tim and Jim.

Wanda worked as the office manager for her husband's business, Tony's Auto Service, in Boren, California until 1995, when his health forced him to retire. In 1999, Wanda and Tony moved to Malvern, Iowa to live closer to son Walter Gatlin's family. Wanda worked as a waitress for a number of years until she retired. Wanda enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Wanda and Tony were married 31 years when Tony suffered a heart attack and died shortly after on October 4, 2004. Wanda continued to live in Malvern until she moved to Medford, Oregon. She returned to live in Malvern in 2006. Due to declining health, Wanda entered the Manor of Malvern in mid 2007.

Wanda passed away on June 11, 2008 at the Manor of Malvern, having attained the age of 74 years, 3 months and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dominic Canale; and sons Michael Sutterfield, at age 12, and John Sutterfield, who recently passed away on June 9, 2008.

Wanda is survived by her children, Thomas Sutterfield of Corning, CA, Brian Sutterfield of Medford, OR, Jona Gatlin of Malvern, IA, Walter Gatlin Sr. of Grinnell, IA, Tim Romines of Smyrna, TN and Jim Romines of Houston, TX; stepdaughters, Nadine Howe and husband Kevin and Davina Achen, all of Spokane, WA; 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Burial was in East Liberty Cemetery, rural Malvern, Iowa.
