Craig L. Herbert

Craig Leo Herbert, one of four children of Alyce Irene (Williams) and Leo Forrest Herbert, was born on April 20, 1958 in Red Oak, Iowa. He grew up in Macedonia, Iowa and graduated from the Carson-Macedonia High School in 1976.
Craig and Jill Mary Rollins were married on September 19, 1976 in Griswold, Iowa. They made their home in Carson, Iowa and their marriage was blessed with three children, Jeffrey Craig, Jolene Marie and Jeri Elizabeth.
Craig attended the Omaha School of Business for accounting, graduating in 1978 and worked for 15 years at Central National Insurance. He attended Buena Vista University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in accounting in 1993. At the age of 35 years and with three children in school, Craig managed to be in the top ten percent of his class. He worked at Cooperative Mutual Insurance for 15 years as an accountant and held the offices of treasurer and vice president.
Craig enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Samantha. He loved reading, watching UNO hockey and playing with his faithful rat terrier dogs, Jake and Shadow.
Craig died unexpectedly at his home in Carson on June 16, 2008, at the age of 50 years, 1 month and 26 days. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Earl Rollins, Jr.
Craig is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jill Herbert of Carson, IA; children, Jeffrey Herbert and Jolene Jackson and her husband James, all of Bellevue, NE, and Jeri Herbert and partner Dawn Rowe of Oakland, IA; grandchildren, Bethany Vicars and Samantha Jackson; parents Leo and Alyce Herbert of Council Bluffs, IA; brothers, Scott Herbert of Omaha, NE and Lance Herbert and his wife Mary and their son Brandon of Council Bluffs; sister RoxAnn Doebelin and her husband Steve and their daughter Amber of Council Bluffs; and mother-in-law Frances Rollins of Oakland; other relatives and many friends.
A memorial fund has been established
Burial will be in the Carson Cemetery, Carson, IA
