Gary Ernest Lindauer, one of two children of Amanda (Poiser) Lindauer and Raymond Carl Lindauer, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 16, 1946. Gary grew up in Bedford, Ohio where he graduated from high school in 1964. Following school, he attended the Ohio State University before being drafted into the Army in 1967. Gary served as an Army Medic for three years and was stationed in Omaha, Nebraska. Following his discharge, Gary attended the University of Omaha.
Gary and Sheila L. Altman were married in Earling, Iowa on August 22, 1970. They made their home in Omaha and were blessed with a son, Zach Altman Lindauer. Gary began his lifelong grocer career at Food City in Omaha. In 1978, the family moved to Glenwood, Iowa where Gary eventually began working for Kaiman's grocery store. Gary loved to bowl; he enjoyed bird watching, and volunteered at the Fontenelle Forest in Omaha.
Gary died at the University of Nebraska Medical Center on November 9, 2009, at the age of 63 years, 9 months, and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Carl Szabo.
Gary is survived by his son, Zach Lindauer of St. Joseph, MO; sister, Linda Szabo of Bedford, OH, and friend, Sheila Altman of Glenwood.
A memorial fund has been established.
