Beverly Ann Phillips, one of three children of Robert Rawleigh and Alvira Louise Marie (Gramkow) Janssen, was born on November 18, 1935 in Persia, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Persia, graduating from Persia High School in 1954. Beverly attended the Stewart School of Cosmetology and graduated in 1968.
Beverly and Merle Duane Phillips were married on December 7, 1955 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Teresa Ann and Pamela Jane. They lived in Carson for many years, where Beverly worked as a hairstylist for 15 years. They also lived in the Chicago, Illinois area for 18 years before moving to Atlantic, Iowa in 2002.
She was a member of the Prospect Heights Baptist Church in Prospect Heights, Ill. Among her many interests were reading, gardening, baking, and decorating her home for the seasons and holidays. One of her greatest joys was a trip to California with Merle in 2005, where she visited and attended a church service at the Crystal Cathedral.
Beverly died at her home on January 8, 2010, at the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 20 days after a very long and courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 54 years, Merle Phillips of Atlantic; daughters, Teresa Phillips of Council Bluffs, and Pamela Rairdin and husband Brent of Center Point, IA; three grandchildren, Bradley Schoening of Omaha, NE, Lindsey Schoening and Tyler Schoening of Cedar Falls, IA, and two step-grandchildren, Rachel Rairdin of North Liberty, IA, and Kevin Rairdin of Alburnett, IA; sister LaVonne Miller and husband Wayne of Persia, IA; brother Gary Janssen and wife Dawn of Indianola, IA; nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Cass County Home Care and Hospice for their wonderful care to Beverly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cass County Home Care and Hospice in Atlantic, IA.
