Archie William Gillard, the oldest of ten children of Mary Anna (Weininger) and John Gillard, was born on June 14, 1908, near Elk City, Oklahoma. At the age of 10, his family moved by train to Brownville, Nebraska where their father farmed. He and his brother Harry remained on the farm until 2007, when they moved to the Tabor Manor in Tabor, Iowa, where they shared a room. Archie celebrated his 100th birthday in 2008.
