Winifred K. Voltmer
December 3, 2010

Winifred Katherine (Noland) Voltmer, daughter of Morris Kite and Anna (Olson) Noland, was born on her parent's farm in Cass Township, Boone County, near Woodward, Iowa, on January 5, 1912. She had one older sister, Oral Lee and one younger brother, Devon. Winifred attended rural school, was active in 4-H, and graduated from Woodward High in Dallas County, Iowa in 1936. She received her teaching degree from the University of Iowa and earned her Master's Credits at Kirksville, Missouri. Winifred taught at several schools during her career and retired from Tama Toledo High School teaching special education.

Winifred met Earl John Voltmer (son of David Herman and Cornelia Matilda (Blaise) Voltmer) while they were students at the University of Iowa. They were married at Woodward, Iowa on September 15, 1938. That same year they started farming for 39 years, making their home near Sigourney, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Karen Diane, Margot Sharon, Lynn Cleone, and Clinton Noland.

In 1977, Earl and Winifred retired and moved to Gainesville, Missouri. She and Earl enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada in their RV. Winifred also enjoyed a trip oversees with her sister-in-law. She loved reading and quilting, and many other arts and crafts. She was an avid photographer, enjoyed bird watching, and was known for wearing her extensive hat collection.

As Earl's heath declined, they moved to Thurman, Iowa in 1992. In April of 1996, Earl entered the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, Iowa and Winifred moved to Carson, Iowa to live near her daughters, Lynn and Margot. She became a member of the Carson United Methodist Church.

Winifred and Earl had been married 59 years when Earl passed away at the age of 93 on July 20, 1998. Winifred continued to live in Carson until moving to the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in March of 2009. She died at the Oakland Manor on December 3, 2010, at the age of 98 years, 10 months, and 28 days.

"My husband and I would like to convey our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of your beloved Winifred. We would like to share with you something that has brought us much comfort at a similar time in our lives. John 11:14-44 shares with us the experience of Jesus resurrecting Lazarus here on earth before the very eyes of those he loved. We can only imagine the tears of joy when we too are reunited with our dear loved ones. (John 5:28,29) Winifred will surely be missed by many of those who's lives she shared, remember the experiences you shared together and learn from them, hold them close to your heart and cherish them. May you find comfort from those who surround you at this very difficult time. Our sincere condolences to all of you. "
