"In honor of mom's birthday April 5th, I light this candle. Love you Mom. Elaine"
Lola Evelyn Jones, the youngest of thirteen children of Alma Emilie (Leu) and Herman Karl Frederick Knop, was born on April 5, 1927 on the family farm northeast of Malvern, Iowa. She attended Pleasant Valley country school and graduated from Malvern High School in 1945. Lola was confirmed and a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Hastings, Iowa.
Lola and Orlo Ray Jones were married on June 22, 1946 in Phoenix City, Alabama while Orlo was in the Army. They returned to Mills County where they began a long career in farming and raising livestock. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Orlo "Woody" Dean, Gregory Allen, Teresa Laray, Rodrick Lynn, Tamra Ranay, and Elaine Gay. The family lived in the home that Orlo and Lola designed and constructed just north of Malvern.
Lola and Orlo loved to dance, and spent hours creating costumes to wear to Richard Goy's Halloween Dances. With Orlo's "laugh" and twinkle in his eye and Lola's "Oh, kid", their family and friends were guaranteed to have a great time. Lola mowed the East Liberty Cemetery for several years. She cared for the elderly and did alot of housecleaning in the area. Lola had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help others. Faith in the Lord, her family, and especially her grandkids, were most important to her.
Lola and Orlo were married 54 years when Orlo died on October 17, 2000. Lola continued to live in their home, caring for her flowers, feeding the birds and her cats, "Gert" and "Doris", and watching the deer and wildlife.
Lola passed away on March 6, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 1 day.
