"Elmer and I became friends as kids, pre-teens. He was just a little older than I was, but I found myself learning a lot from him.He became a mentor as well as a friend. He had a new and original and fresh perspective on life and the world. This was most obvious with his generous use of humor. I still smile, thinking of him."

"You can not buy a good friend or a good neighbor. Elmer lived next to me but he was more importantly my friend. He helped me with his backhoe one summer and I feel I can never repay what he did for me. He literally saved me. I tried. By plowing his snow, fixing his tractor, but ended up feeling slightly guilty because we ended up having coffee and it wasn't helping Elmer, it was enjoying his company. He was my Dads best friend, those two did everything together. SIssy and Elmer were the greatest neighbors and freinds. Favorite story--my son Cody was young and selling gun raffle tickets for his wrestling team and had not sold many. I said "did you go down and see Elmo?(That's what he called Elmer.), he likes guns." We went down and had coffee, Elmers little Rottweilelr sat on my lap, and Cody had no tickets a couple hours later. That came back to me today, when I called Cody today, in the Marines, to tell him Elmo had passed away... You see ...3 generations of my family have lost a loved one"

"The real story of how we got married on June 7th some years ago. Elmer said,"we are going out to dinner with Fred & his wife tonight".(Fred just happened to be the JP.) When they arrived, Fred asked,"are we going to do this before we go out?" Of course, I asked,"do what?" Elmer quickly replied,"I've decided it's time that you become Mrs. Lorah, okay?" What could I say! "
