Nelpha N. Owens, age 78 of Mingo, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center - Monarch Wing. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax, with burial following at Union Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Mingo American Legion Auxiliary Unit 534 and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
Nelpha was born on December 10, 1933, and grew up in the Jasper County area. On October 31, 1951, she was united in marriage to Ralph Owens. They lived in the Ira and Mingo area and raised three children. Nelpha worked at Maytag for some years and at the Mingo Locker for 16 years.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband Ralph; her daughter, Carol Ann (Charlie) Myers; her sons, Dennis Owens and Marvin Owens; grandchildren, Steve (Jan) Myers, Lisa Myers, and Dave Owens; great grandchildren, Jared Myers, Chloe Forch, Justin Myers, Brett Wheatcraft, and Grace Owens. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Sliger and Jane Hopkins and two brothers, Jim Nell and Tony Nell. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and a son in infancy.
