Theda M. Gerkey
August 18, 1918 - May 17, 2012

Theda Mae (Oswalt) Gerkey (93) was born on August 18, 1918 In Olmutz Iowa (Lucas Co.) She is preceded in death by her husband Lester, son Francis Charles (Butch) and 6 siblings, Max Oswalt, Melvin Oswalt, Marvin Oswalt, George Oswalt, Charles Oswalt, and Thelma Oswalt Logar and her Grandsons Brian Bishop, Douglas Myers, and Willy Holmes. She was married on August 16th 1939 to Lester Paul Gerkey and to this union was born 7 children, Sharon (Carl) Stoffer, Thelma (Larry) Holmes, Georgene (Glen) Graydon, Dean Gerkey, Teri Gerkey and Ann (Glenn) Fried. Theda was an avid bowler and enjoyed many years of league participation. She was a member of AARP and volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center in Chariton after a lengthy career at the Chariton Manor and was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family. Interment will be at the Chariton Cemetery. And a memorial mass will held at a later date.
