"I just learned of this very sad news today. Gary was one of the first people I met when I joined the firm in 1989. He was a true gentleman, solid friend and a great analyst and portfolio manager. He was so loyal and dedciated to the firm, it was fitting that he was made CIO and President, well deserved! After I left TICI in 1996, we kept up a bit but not so much in recent years. I missed our talks about cars and the current state of Templeton. We have lost a great, kind, and modest man. I learned much over the years from Gary. My thoughts go out to Peggy and his family. I am sorry to have missed the service. "

He will be missed. And I will miss our car talks."

"Dear Peggy,
Adrienne and I were shocked to hear of Gary's sudden passing. Our thoughts are with you at this most difficult time.
I will remember Gary fondly for many reasons. At work, for the way that he welcomed me into the Templeton organisation in early 1997, for his judgement, experience and succinct summaries of companies and investment situations. Drinking from the well was always productive. In a wider sense, for his dry humour and the impish twinkle in his eyes when telling a story. But, most of all, for his integrity and determination to always do "the right thing", and for the range of subjects on which he had a deep knowledge and understanding. With Gary, still waters ran delightfully deep.
Like his many friends , we will miss him

"The man
Gary can rest peacefully. Knowing life would not last forever, he enjoyed his moment by moment. He would, for example, go home to share lunch with Peggy as often as he could. He used his money to buy nice cars and houses, but never traded having for being because he understood the real value of each.
The family member
Peggy, Marie, Cheryl, I know these are hard times; it could not be otherwise. May God grant you the strength to look forward, find peace in your hearts, and remain ever grateful of being his wife, mother and sister. He was very proud of you.
The Analyst
Sir John Templeton, a smart man, spotted Gary early on. Gary was hard working, ambitious, humble, and a great analyst. He learned and applied moral concepts to money management. His character and skill set underpinned him as standard bearer of Sir John's legacy. He did it outstandingly, and deservedly earned respect and admiration from many clients, accomplished analysts and money managers. As all great leaders, Gary taught by example. Those who worked close to him were privileged, and because of him the legend shall go on without him. What a great accomplishment!
Thank you
Gary, I owe you two jobs, and what I learned from you and because of you, I apply every day.

He will be greatly missed.

"Marie, Cheryl, Peg:
It is with great sadness that Sandy and I learned of your loss this morning from Reading friends.
Peg, I have so many great memories of Gary: we grew up together, walked to school together, played together, vacationed together, and enjoyed all those Christmas Eve's together.
He was a wonderful son and brother, whose success brought great pride to Marie, Moe, and Cheryl, as to all of us who knew him.
We will remember him always as a man of great integrity, honesty, and incredible work ethic, like his Dad. We will miss him, and we extend our deepest sympathies.

"I started at Templeton in the GEG group right out of college. I remember Gary had the corner office on 21 and his door was ALWAYS closed. I thought who is that man. I never saw him come out and actually I was a bit afraid of him. Then I started to notice the many different sports cars he'd drive into work with and I thought, huh, this guy is pretty cool. Over time I got to know Gary better and not only was Gary cool but he was a great man that I had the privilege of working for closely on a daily basis. I'll miss walking into your office Gary, countless times a day. May you rest in peace and enjoy your fast cars in heaven. As I heard Gary once say "so many great cars, so little garage space"."

We will all miss you terribly."

Gary, I miss you today and every day that we were not at lunch or being dog partners, talking about cars, investments and the best day of your life when you and Peggy were married and I had the honor of "best man". This is a sad time for Peggy but we know she is strong and will come through this.
You pulled me through some rough times in my life and I know God will take care of you. Rest in peace my best friend. You will be missed by all."

"What a joy it was to work with Gary. So much wisdom, so many laughs and a "few" complaints about the garbage on the Bargain List! I still remember the first time I noticed a "look" between Gary and Peggy on the elevator and being so happy he had found the right lady for him. He was a truly great investor, whose results were actually as legendary as Sir John's, but the world never knew because he never sought the limelight. He knew what really mattered - being a great and loyal husband, friend and mentor. Carol and my hearts go out to you Peggy as we all share a measure of your grief and shock. May the Lord grant you peace in the days and months ahead and let us know if there is anything we can do to help."
