Veleta M. DeMoss, 80, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Tuesday evening, June 26, 2012, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A celebration of Veleta's life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, June 30, 2012, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.
Veleta Marion Howell was born on April 4, 1932 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Frank and Tola (Greene) Howell. She attended Maquoketa schools. She married Everett Keith DeMoss on April 11, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death.
Veleta had worked at the egg hatchery and then on the assembly line at Ensign Coil in Cascade, Iowa. She then worked as a nurses aide for 23 years at the Maquoketa Care Center and Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.
Veleta loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved her cat, "Kit", and Rick and Karen's puppy dog, "Bear".
Veleta is survived by her children, Rick (Karen) DeMoss of Maquoketa, IA, Sharon (Mike) Moore of Maquoketa, IA, and Clay DeMoss of Eldora, IA; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Victor (Hope) Howell of Sterling, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 children in infancy and a daughter, Karla, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Veleta M. DeMoss memorial fund has been established.
