Jerry & Marilyn Maynard wrote on Sep 3, 2012:

"I was fortunate to have lived one block from Red and attended school with him from elementary school through high school graduation in 1954. He was a friend to everyone and highly respected by all. He had some exceptional talents which often surprised people. Among them were his skills in athletics, particularly track and football, and his knowledge of auto mechanics. During our high school years he often worked at the local Phillips 66 station which made it the place to go for the rest of us when we needed automobile service. Red was special in that he would come to the aid of anyone needing help if he possibly could. Strong evidence of that was his many years service on the local fire department. He was a best friend throughout my life and we continued to correspond off and on, especially the last few years as he addressed some health issues. I know he is now reunited with Jackie and that will bring him great peace and comfort as life was never the same for him after losing her. In my view it was people like Red that made the Maquoketa High School Class of 1954 seem so special to those of us who were privileged to be in that group. Red will be greatly missed by all of us."

I will miss your unique laugh/giggle, long talks, your warning me about problems in our neighborhood, the sound of your comforting and understanding voice, all the advice you gave me from your heart and especially those wonderful hugs and hearing you say, "I love you". Rest In Peace my wonderful friend."
